Need to know: It is a surgery to reduce the size of breasts by excising fat, tissue and skin, making them smaller, lighter and firmer. In addition, the size of the areola can also be reduced.

Although there are different techniques depending on the size of the breast, several vertical and horizontal incisions around the areola may be necessary. They are performed under the breast crease (with an anchor shape), as it happens in breast lift.

The operation is performed with general anesthesia. The surgeon removes the excess of skin, glands and fat; then, he/she places the nipple in the correct position and reshapes the breast. We put a garment which will be replaced after 24 hours by a bra which must be worn for a month.

During the post-operative period, the presence of hematoma and swelling is frequent.

Make up: The results of breast reduction are very satisfying, since the person who undergoes this surgery is motivated by a real necessity, both physical and psychological. We have to take into account that this surgery develops some, more or less, perceptible scars which worth, in most cases, because the patient will be able to behave as she wants because she will feel better with herself showing it to other people.

Profile: Many women who undergo this operation are worried because of the excessive volume of their breast, since it is uncomfortable to carry out many normal activities and it causes physical discomfort. We can remark the case of a teenager who has an excessive size of breast which makes her feel ashamed in normal life, in her relationships...
