Why is hyaluronic acid better?
Hyaluronic Acid is an absorbable product of synthetic origin. Therefore, the risk of possible negative effects in both a short and a long term is almost inexistent. The results obtained are very natural. In addition, the swelling which appear in the hours following the treatment is less evident than the one resulting by the use of permanent or semi-permanent materials.
Can a patient be injected a different product than the one she was injected for the first time or must it always be the same?
If there is still product, it is advisable to use the same. Once it has been totally reabsorbed, we can use a different one. In the event the first product used would have been non-absorbable or semi-permanent, we recommend not to inject any other product because the risk of having a exaggerated swelling is important. So, if the patient used this kind of materials, she would not be an ideal candidate to undergo a treatment in Dorsia. In these cases, it is important to ask your specialist or surgeon.
How long does it last?
It depends on the person and on the capacity of her hyaluronidase (enzyme which breaks hyaluronic acid out), but we can get quite good results for a year. But the patient must understand that there is a possibility that the effects will have disappeared in 6 months. In our planning, we consider a “finishing touch” after five months in order to keep a whole year of treatment with good results and a high satisfaction level.
Is it painful? Is anesthesia necessary?
Concerning lips, it is advisable to undergo an anesthesia with injection (that is, similar to the one dentists perform). Concerning facial resurfacing, it does not have to be necessary. However, if the patient does not bear pain, we could apply an anesthesic cream in the area to be treated 20 or 45 minutes before the first session.
Bruises, swelling, little lumps?
Every injection can develop the appearance of haematoma, reddish skin and, of course, swelling in the area which has been injected. Depending on the kind of skin, these effects will resolve more or less quickly, but it usually takes between 48 and 72 hours. If the patient applies ice to the treated area after the injections, we will reduce the time non-desired effects will remain. Concerning little lumps, it is probable that little lumps could be noticed. They will disappear in two-three weeks if the patient gives herself massages at home
Can patients use make-up?
Without any problem, there is no contradiction to do it.
Must patients take any medication before the infiltration?
It is important not to take any non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication (aspirin, ibuprofen…). If the patient informs us that she has a tendency to show bruises or swelling, a previous treatment with arnica could be recommended. But it is the doctor who must decide it. The previous tendency to take antibiotics has nowadays few supporters, because of the high safety of the products with which we work.
Post-treatment advices:
It is advisable to massage the area with energy twice a day, and a good moisturizing is undoubtfully essential—Vaseline for lips and a long-lasting moisturizing for facial infiltrations.
