NEED TO KNOW: laser hair removal is a treatment based on thermolysis. Thanks to it, we can directly work on the root of the hair, destroying it by the heat this lighting energy creates. No every patient is a candidate to laser hair removal—people who have a dark skin have a higher risk to develop burns after the treatment. It is therefore the doctor who determines the viability of this treatment. Facial laser hair removal has usually worse results than when it is used on the rest of the body. In some cases, a counter-effect can appear, so the patient must be well informed about this. We cannot assure to our patients that all their hair will disappear, forever and in 6 sessions.

MAKE UP: Laser hair removal has the aim to reduce the quantity of hair of our body and to delay its growing. We will obtain better results as the number of sessions the patient undergoes is higher. The bonus of six sessions is the most recommended one.

PROFILE: From any age, once the patient has finished his/her sexual development.

Frecuently Asked Questions about "Laser Hair Removal (NHT ®)"
Factors conditioning its efficiency:
Melanin: this pigment is not only present exclusively on hair but also on skin. Therefore, the darker the skin is, higher is the risk of developing burns of first or second degree. Hair thickness: the thicker it is, higher the efficiency we get. Deepness of the hair follicle: this is an important factor to determine the most proper wavelenght to obtain a successful treatment. Follicle Thickness: this is an essential factor to plan the sessions and their fluency. Age and sex: the presence of high levels of androgens makes the treatment more difficult. For this reason, those areas having a higher stimulation of androgens will be more resistant to this treatment.
Side-Effects:
Laser hair removal is a technique based on transforming light energy into thermic energy. Therefore, the most frequent controlled side effects range from erythema to first or second degree burns, which will completely disappear, being extremely rare to have any after-effect. In order to them to fade, we must follow the adequate instructions: used of corticoids for external application, regenerative creams, oils or ointments and, above all, the total prohibition to sun exposure during two or three months after their appearance. In its first phase, the burn can be a blistering wound with exudate. Later, it will become into an over-pigmented wound with a brownish crusting, which will disappear after three or four days leading to an over-pigmented wound similar to the spot used during the laser treatment, and which will resolve after two or three months, in some occasions until six, always taking into account that all safety measures had been taken into account. The evolution above described is the result of our vast experience observing the controlled side-effects of photothermolysis. It is very rare to observe keloids in those patients who have a tendency to abnormal scarring.
Can white hair be removed?
Those patients who have white hair are not good candidates to this treatment.
Does it hurt? What do you feel?
Taking into account that what is painful depends on the person, the necessity to use or not anesthesic cream will vary according to the patient.
When does hair disappear?
Hair usually falls within seven or ten days after the session with laser.
Which is the adequate measure of hair before the treatment?
It is advisable to have visible hair (between 0.05 and 0.1 mm)
How many sessions would I need?
It depends on the patient. Sometimes six sessions are enough; in other cases, we need ten or twelve. There are many factors to bear in mind.
Are results definitive?
We would better use the term permanent. Assuring our patients that they will never have again hair is too risky. It is necessary to explain our patients that they will probably need some further sessions, but with long intervals between them and when they want.
What percentage of hair disappears?
To compromise with an exact figure would be a mistake. It is better to argue that it will be reduced.
Results… when?
In general, after the third session.
