What is the botulinum toxin (Botox® or Vistabel®)?
It is a natural protein obtained from Clostridium Botullinum. It is denaturalized and used in small doses. It is used to relax (not to paralyze) the chosen muscles of the face. Thanks to the mechanisms of defense of our body, the muscles restore, so its action is reversible.
How is this technique performed?
It consists in the injection of very small quantities of botulinum toxin (Vistabel) in the muscles which cause the appearance of non-desired wrinkles. It is a selective treatment, since it only affects those muscles we want to relax. We block the release of a neurotransmitter prohibiting then the transmission of the nervous signal so that the chosen muscles get relaxed.
It is recommended when…
We have clear creases in the upper part of our face (forehead, the space between our eyebrows), crows feet near the eyes. We can also use Vistable to lift the edge of our eyebrow, rejuvenating our image.
It is not recommended if…
The patient is over 65 year old, unless she accepts that the results will last for a short period of time, and that she will have to be applied Vistabel more often. If the patient is taking muscles relaxants or antibiotics (spectinomycin o aminoglucosides), she is pregnant, she is allergic to the proteins of eggs or have a neuromuscular disease, she will have to inform the doctor to value the viability of this treatment.

Schedule of Iron flash:
The results of the infiltration start being visible 3 or 5 days later. There is almost no swelling, and you do not need to hide at home. The effects are not perceptible when you leave the clinic, but some days later. In this way, the patient’s private life is preserved. The maximum effect is perceptible two or three weeks later. The first infiltration normally lasts 3 or 4 months, with increasing duration periods as further infiltrations are made. After several infiltrations, always taking into account the intervals of time necessary between them, sometimes we obtain long-lasting effects.No convalescence is necessary, since you can resume normal activity (eating or even working). During some hours after the injection, you must avoid any movements which will extend the medication to other non-desired areas (not receiving facial massages, no rubbing your eyes or the treated skin; sports are not recommended as well as going to bed before 4 or 5 hours after the treatment).
Is it painful?
it does not hurt. You can feel some discomfort during the injections. Extremely fine needles are used, and Vistabel can only develop a temporary and light stinging sensation.
Complications.
The risk of using this toxin in the treatment of wrinkles is minimum. The toxic dose is by far higher than the one we use to treat wrinkles. Side effects are normally palbebral ptosis or the fallen of the eyesbrow’s edge. But at any case, they will be transitory.
Repetition of treatment
You can repeat it, but it is necessary to wait at least 4 months. The treatment will consist of three sessions. The initial one consists in the elaboration of a complete medical history. The second and third will be used to check the results and modify them if it is necessary.
